When we converted our first twelve foot jon boat in 1982, we had no idea what it would evolve into. We didn't like the stability of the first boat much so we sold it. We converted another twelve footer and didn't like the stability of it either. It just didn't seem comfortable standing on the front deck, leaning out and casting. HOWEVER, the guys we sold them to didn't feel that way at all, they loved them!

We bought a brand new fourteen foot deep & wide and converted it in 1985 and that's when it all started. Fishermen and even families would gather around at the lake and question us about the boat so much that we could hardly fish! Lots of times they would get directions to our home so they could come and take measurements and pictures later. They would ALWAYS say that we should write a book about how to do this.

Writing A Book Takes A Long Time!

We thought writing the book would take about a week. Well, the first "proof" copy took two months! Getting all the instructions and schematics together so they were in the proper sequence and so they made sense, took forever. There were no color pics in the first "Hydrilla Gorilla" book. This was done on an IBM computer with DOS, no windows, and pictures weren't part of the system. Plus, printing pictures was much too expensive to make it possible to even produce a book.

We sold the book in BASSMASTER magazine and others for years until eBay came along. When we put the first book on eBay it was obvious that we needed a website right away. We've been online with our book since 1998 and we've been constantly improving and updating the book since then.

Take LOTS of pictures of your project and send them in. Your boat could end up on the website AND in the book!
